What's new in Roofy

Major handling update for drawing and measuring

  • New

Rectangle tool: three clicks instead of four corners

Rectangular areas now take three clicks: set the first side, then pull out the width. The rectangle may be rotated freely. It works when drawing roof areas, when measuring and on facades in 3D. A right-click undoes the last click.

  • New

Chained dimensions: one line after another

Once a measurement line is finished you can carry straight on, as its endpoint becomes the start of the next line. That lets you measure a whole edge in sections without starting over each time. Escape ends the chain.

  • New

    Move whole polygon sides

You can grab a complete side of a polygon and move it in parallel instead of dragging both corners separately. Available in the 2D plan and on facades in 3D.

  • Improved

    Measurement lines stay connected

Move a corner or a measurement line and everything attached to it follows: shared endpoints, points sitting in the middle of a line, and across several connected lines. The junction between roof and facade at the eaves holds too.

  • Improved

    Reliable angle snapping on facades

When drawing on a wall, lines now snap reliably to right angles and to the horizontal of that particular wall surface. The guides show the direction the next point will land in.

  • Improved

Shortcuts and guide brought up to date

The shortcut overview in the app and the guide now show the same, complete list. Newly covered are the rectangle tool, moving whole sides and navigating the 3D model, among others.

Processing modes to choose from and more precise measurements

  • Improved

Choose the processing mode on upload

When uploading, you now choose between 2D (a fast survey from the orthophoto), 3D Classic and 3D Alternative. Both 3D modes additionally generate an interactive 3D model and differ in the calculation method. If 3D Classic does not convince you, simply reprocess the session with 3D Alternative.

  • Improved

Cleaner 3D models, even with a continuous ground shell

The automatic ground trim now detects the ground edge from the point density and removes hanging ground remnants beneath the building more reliably, without cutting into the building itself.

  • Improved

More robust 3D reconstruction with GPS outliers

Individual images with faulty GPS coordinates are detected and corrected instead of distorting the entire model.

  • Fixed

Precise 2D measurement even on very large orthophotos

On particularly large orthophotos (over 8192 pixels edge length) measurements could be slightly offset. The scale is now computed uniformly across the full resolution.

  • Fixed

    Ground-to-roof-edge height measurement corrected

The height from the ground line to the roof edge is now measured along the wall, no longer along the sloped roof line.

  • Fixed

Sign-in token error on upload fixed

The sign-in token is cached during upload and refreshed automatically when needed. Uploads no longer abort with a token error.

More reliable image uploads

  • Fixed

Uploads no longer stop partway through

In rare cases an image upload could stop partway through with a subscription notice. The subscription check now happens when you create a project and when you start processing, no longer for every single image.

Cleaner 3D models, faster loading times

  • Improved

    3D models without ground plinth

Ground and surrounding remnants beneath the building are removed automatically, even on slopes. The model sits cleanly on its footprint without manual trimming.

  • Improved

    Significantly faster loading times

The 3D model now loads in seconds instead of minutes thanks to optimised textures. The 2D view opens around ten times faster.

  • Improved

Cropping with snapping and live preview

While cropping, a rubber band previews the next edge and the outline snaps to the starting point to close. The orthophoto and height map are cropped along with the model and reload automatically.

  • Fixed

    Eaves and verges reliably classified

On roofs with both flat and pitched areas, every roof surface is now assessed individually. Swapped edge types and the resulting length errors are fixed.

  • Fixed

    Height map aligned after cropping

After cropping, the height map shows exactly the same extent as the orthophoto, even after reloading the page.

  • Fixed

    Steady canvas while moving points

The image no longer rotates while a polygon point is being dragged. Automatic alignment only kicks in after you release the point.

  • Fixed

    Photo textures after cropping

Cropped 3D models keep their photo textures. The grey, untextured model after cropping is a thing of the past.

  • Fixed

    Live progress after page reload

If the page is reloaded while processing is running, the status display now shows the actual progress again instead of being stuck on “Starting”.
